Brief Bhutan (4 days 3 nights)


    Although this is a short package (designed for those with less time) you can still feel the striking beauty of the kingdom. We take you on a guided tour of Thimphu, the capital city and Paron.

Day 1: Fly from Kathmandu to Paro. In Paro you will be met by your representative guide and taken to Thimphu (2 hours away), the least visited of all the Himalayan capitals. Here the guide will brief you and give you your first tour of Thimphu.

Day 2: We spend the day Thimphu, and will visit:
- Memorial Chorten - a huge stupa built to commemorate the Third King of Bhutan (1952-1972).
- the National Library to see ancient manuscripts.
We visit t he painting school where traditional art - thanka art - is kept alive through instruction.
- a handicrafts emporium where Bhutanise textiles and other crafts can be seen and purchased.
Lunch
- Simtokha Dzong - one of the oldest fortresses in Bhutan, (built around 1630) and largest monastic schools.
- Tashichoo Dzong, the main secretariat building. This massive building houses the Ministries and the office of the king, including the Throne Room. It also houses the State Monastic body and the living quarters of the Chief Abbot.
- Pangri Zampa Monastery, 5 kilometers from Thimphu and just beyond - Dechencholing, which is the residence of teh Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel, who arrived in Bhutan in 1616 .

Day 3: Drive to Drukgal Dzong, a fortified monastery; Ta Dzong, the national musuem and the market townof Paro. On the way back visit Simithokan Dzong.

Day 4: Fly from Paro to Kathmandu
